BEFORE YOU REINSTALL
- Go to keyword ACCESS and
copy down your local access numbers with their network and baud rate so you can enter them
when AOL asks for them.

Because AOL constantly updates it's software, it's recommended that you download the most
recent revision at Keyword: GET30 (aol link)
- Close AOL and all other Windows
applications.
- Open your Windows
Explorer, and create a
temporary folder on your C:\ drive:
a. Right click START, click Explore.
b. Highlight the C:\ drive, click on File, New, Folder.
c .Name the folder AOLTemp
- Copy any of the following files from your
AOL30 directory to the AOL Temp Directory:
a. Files you've downloaded to your C:\AOLxx\ DOWNLOAD folder, including
the SETUP95.EXE file you just downloaded....this is IMPORTANT!
b. Your Personal File Cabinet/Favorite Places files which bear your various screen
name(s). These are found in your AOL\ORGANIZE folder.
c. Your Address Book files which are found in your AOL\IDB folder. Two
files are needed for your Address Book: ADDRBK.LST and ADDRBK.IND.

Restart Windows -- This is Very

you have a newer version of AOL on your computer, do you want to install anyway. Click
YES!
- At the beginning of this install process
you'll see a screen that says Install, Review, and Exit.
- Select Review. Then
delete the text in the Directory box that will appear next (which is where
AOL will be looking for a previous version of the software) so that line is completely
blank, then click on Continue.

- Finally, accept the default directory
displayed in the next text box unless you wish to select a different drive or drive
partition, then click Install (make a note of this directory! You will need it
later on). This will install this clean AOL installation into a new,
separate directory without overwriting or replacing the previous AOL directories.
- When the program is finished installing, restart
Windows normally.
- Then startup the new
installation of AOL from the new icon on your desktop, but do NOT launch it with any TPA
Software products yet. Sign on without any TPA Software products running. You will first
see a screen with new user information; click on Cancel in the lower
right to clear this screen and display the sign on screen. Click Setup,
then Setup Modem, highlight your modem from the list there, and click OK.
Now select Edit Location and enter your local access numbers and network
on the screen there and select Save, then click OK.
IMPORTANT:
Now, sign on as a "New User," without any TPA Software program running. Once
online, enter your screen name and password in the boxes for them on the Registration
screen. All your current account info and screen names will be transferred to your new
software. If you do not sign on with this new software, the TPA Software program
will not recognize this AOL installation, and you will get an error message that
you don't
have a valid account. This is what happens when the program sees "New User" at
the sign on screen.
Sign off and exit AOL. You may get a number
of TOD Downloads. Do not disturb these...just let them download.
Then use Windows Explorer to move the files
into this copy of AOL that you moved out in Step 4 above.
Once you know that the new installation of
AOL is working properly and you have moved the files you need out of it, you can delete
the old AOL directory.
After you upgrade AOL you will need to
inform whichever TPA Software program of the new AOL directory. Please refer to the READ
ME file that came with the program and reference the "Choose AOL Version to Run"
section!
